Repaying A Bigger, Louder Cove – Grant

Sydney FC star Rhyan Grant says the squad are out to repay the faith of the supporters on Friday night at Leichhardt Oval against the Newcastle Jets.

Looking to bounce back from Saturday’s derby result, Grant paid testament to the quality of the travelling Cove as he eyes off a repeat of the atmosphere from their Round 2 win at the inner west venue.

“I think all our Members and fans and The Cove, they’re all very important to us,” Grant said.

“You could see and hear them on the weekend, The Cove were bigger and louder. They weren’t in the same numbers because of the allocation but they drive us the whole time.”

“If we can get a good number again this weekend that’ll be a major part in helping us get three points.

“I love playing at Leichhardt. It’s that suburban ground that’s pretty close to the field and you’ve got the hill which is a bit of a throwback moment,” he continued.

“The crowd and the fans there get amongst it which is always nice. We saw The Cove, how much they showed up in numbers and the tifo they had, it just brings it all together.

“In the afternoon and night this Friday will be another great chance to come out and get behind us and for us to repay that faith with a good performance.”

Having scored in the Sky Blues’ most recent encounter at Leichhardt Oval, Grant said he had special celebration lined up should he find the back of the net again at the Cove end.

And with a BYE coming up the week after, the Socceroos hero said there was no reason not to give it their all with a weekend off looming.

“It was very special scoring in Round 2,” Grant said.

“I’ve scored a few times in front of The Cove and I always forget to give them a wave.

“That’s always on my mind, and hopefully if I get a chance to put another one in the back of the net I’ll be able to celebrate with them.

“You approach every game the same, but if we can give our all this week we know we’ve got the following week off,” he continued.

“If we can go out there, run as much as we can and play some good footy, we know we’re going to have a break and rest. We’ll be busting it to put in another good performance and get the three points.”
