Regents Park Saints FC are Sydney FC-s Local Club of the Week and have won a $500 grant from St. George Bank after being entered into the competition by 15 year old player Rhys Frank Lane who discussed the clubs- embracing of multiculturalism as a defining aspect of their teams.

Playing in the Granville & Districts Soccer Football Association, Regents Park Saints FC are a club that unites different cultures through football and instils a sense of similarity and belonging in the many nationalities that play the game within their squads.

“We have a proud history of supporting children from many cultures and backgrounds,” Lane said.

“Our children come from war-torn countries such as Iraq, Afghanistan, Sudan, Iran and Somalia and we all try to unite our different cultures and embrace our similarities.

“We instil in our children that we are different but still a team and that we are the same on and off the field when playing the world game.”

Club President Joe Loulach said he was extremely pleased to have won the grant and said the money would be put towards purchasing some new gear for the children.

“I-m excited to have won,” Loulach said.

“With the grant we-ll definitely give back to the kids. Some of our kids are struggling with boots and that so we-ll give it back to the kids in whatever way we can.

“We want to thank Sydney FC and St. George Bank for this grant, everything we do is voluntary so whatever we can put back into the community is what we-re about.”

Loudlach also praised Lane, a 15 year old player who has been associated with Regents Park Saints FC for a number of years, and plans to congratulate the junior at their training session tomorrow night.

“Reece has been with the club for many years,” Loudlach said.

“Our club was actually struggling for a while and through people like Reece and his parents they-ve actually helped get the club back on their feet and now we-re going places.

“I-ll make sure to give him a big pat on the back.”
