Sydney FC Westfield W-League Captain Teresa Polias is looking to kick off the season with a bang as the Sky Blues start 2018/19 with a massive #SydneyDerby at Marconi Stadium (kick off 7:30pm AEDT).

Polias understands the importance of a derby better than most, and is ready to take on the new season from day one.

“It’s been a long time coming for the W-League season to start again so we’re all very excited and to start off with the Derby is quite special,” she said.

“Usually we have to wait a few rounds until we face our rivals but this time we get to start off with a bang and it should be great. Hopefully we can get the win.”

The midfielder has been at the club since 2010, and has ran out for the Sky Blues 101 times making her one of our most experienced players – something that will be important after plenty of changes to the squad that made the Grand Final last season.

While it is a very different side, Polias feels that there is a definite chance to lift the trophy this time around once things click into gear.

“It’s a very new squad, but we have so much quality and I think we can definitely challenge for the title and hopefully go one better than last season,” she said.

“It’s very important for everyone to buy in, I think this year especially since we’ve gone under the biggest squad change we’ve ever had and will have the most internationals we’ve ever had at one time as well.

“It took a little while but we’ve got everyone together now, we’re ready for Thursday night and I’m confident we can get the job done.”

The 28-year old has represented the Matildas on 10 occasions, and while higher honours are always something players of her calibre strive for, Polias is focusing on doing her best to make Sydney FC a successful unit once again.

“Personally I just want to stay on top of my game and stay fit and healthy,” she said.

“I say it every year but I just want to do my job for the team and those are always sort of my main goals that I take into a season, and everything else should come from that.”
