Sydney FC stalwart defender Nikola Petkovic holds high hopes heading into Friday-s Elimination Final against the Melbourne Victory at Etihad Stadium (kick off 7:30pm) saying the Sky Blues have the quality needed to progress to the semi-finals.

The Sky Blues have had the wood over the Victory this season and with fond memories of their last game at Etihad Stadium (a 5-0 win) still fresh in the memory, Petkovic believes Sydney FC will “deal with” the Victory again.

“This is a very important game 90 minutes and I hope we will win,” Petkovic said.

“In this moment I think every team has the same chance, it doesn-t matter who is in the better shape.

“This is our derby, it-s a big fight for us and I think we have the quality to go to the semi-final.

“I think we did really well in those last three games, twice we beat them and one draw, so I think it-s good for us to play against Victory and I hope we will again deal with Victory,” he continued.

“It-s a very important game, everyone has the power for 90 minutes, it-s like a final if you win you go on if not you go home but I think that we will win.”

The past seven weeks have been “finals” for Sydney FC but Petkovic said Friday will be the first real final the Sky Blues have had to compete in this season as he emphasised the Sky Blues pedigree when it comes to winning matches.

“We have 12 wins in these 27 games, only Brisbane who is the Champions have more than us,” Petkovic said.

“This is really the final and for 90 minutes it-s who gives their best and who is lucky who will go to the semi-final.

“This week it-s really different every game was we say a final for us but this really is a final and we don-t have the next game next week.”
