Socceroo coach Holger Osieck has hailed the work ethic shown by Nick Carle for Sydney FC this season as one of the reasons for his inclusion in the Socceroo squad to play Saudi Arabia in a 2014 World Cup Asian Qualifier next Wednesday at AAMI Park in Melbourne.

Carle has rediscovered his brilliant best in the attacking third, scoring four goals and been credited with five assists, but it has been his fighting performances in the Sydney FC midfield that have also caught Osieck-s eye.

“Carle, I just think he deserves a call in because he plays well for Sydney, said Osieck. “It’s always a fine line, what do you rate more, team success or individual performance?

“He really worked hard for team success. I really appreciated his team commitment and the way he fought for the team. I really think that the way he tried to have an impact on his team to drive his team forward was very good.”

Osieck-s comments mirror Carle-s determination to concentrate on his job at Sydney FC to put his name forward for National Team Selection.

“I-ve always said that the only way for me to play in the National Team is to be playing well for Sydney FC,” Carle said. “I have focussed all year on working as hard as I can on the training ground, in games and even off the pitch with the Sydney FC Medical Staff to give my best for Sydney FC.

“That-s all I can control. I hoped it would see me get another call up and thankfully it has. Now I have to take the same attitude to the camp next week to give myself the best possible chance to get some game time.”
