Sydney FC Head Coach Frank Farina says it-s hard to top the atmosphere a Sydney Derby produces as the Sky Blues prepare to face the Wanderers at Allianz Stadium on Saturday (kick off 7:45pm).
With a record crowd of 40,388 fans packing Allianz Stadium the previous time these two sides met, Farina is confident Sydney FC can put on a show to entertain another bumper crowd, but was wary of a Wanderers side looking to emerge from their current slump in form.
“It [a sell-out crowd] seems to be the trend when we play the Wanderers whether it-s home or away,” Farina said.
“I think it-s great for the players and for the spectators as well, nothing beats a good atmosphere.
“They-ve been reasonably close this year the two previous derbies. I don-t think form coming into it is a real big factor, as we know with the atmosphere and the feeling between both clubs it-s just who turns up on the day.
“I-m expecting them to bounce back and I don-t expect them to have 2 weeks like they have.”
With all the weight a derby game carries, Farina said his squad didn-t need any more motivation to be ready for Saturday night.
“I-ve always loved the derbies, it-s a special game and a special time,” said Farina.
“I think every player wants to play in them and you don-t need any motivation because that-s enough, just being in the derby, you want to get out there and do well.
“Our leadership group has sat down every week and discussed games coming up.
“The mentality in the group is very good at the moment so it doesn-t need any real special message from me to make them realise the importance of the game.”
