Ninkovic Enjoying Second Wind At Sky Blues

Sydney FC midfielder Milos Ninkovic believes his more settled nature in his second season at the club is producing the football he’s displayed in the Sky Blues unbeaten run to date.

The Serbian has starred in the Sky Blues squad this season, laying on multiple assists and scoring multiple goals to receive the plaudits week after week, and the number 10 attributes it all to his greater understanding with the players around him.

“It’s much better than last year [at Sydney FC for me],” Ninkovic said.

“It was difficult [last year] for me because I came here in my first year, everything was new for me, but this year I’ve started much better than last year.

“When I came, I thought it was easy to play A-League but it’s very hard.  I’ve already played last year with these players and now we understand each other better and that’s why I feel more comfortable.”

Ninkovic is anticipating a different Glory side to the one the Sky Blues defeated in the Westfield FFA Cup, as the midfielder said that while the Sky Blues form comes as no shock, he believes there’s still improvements to be made.

“Our form is no surprise for me,” he said.

“We worked hard in pre-season and when we played friendly games I saw that we looked much better than last year and we’ve just continued that throughout the FFA Cup and in the A-League.

“This is only the first five games, we have 20 more, but we need to continue to play like these first five games. I think we can play much better than last game against Victory with the ball.

“In the A-League if you lose two games you can go down in the table so we just need to continue the hard work every training and every game. We need to play much better with the ball and hopefully every game will be much better.

“I think Perth looks much better than when we played them in the FFA Cup,” he continued.

“They look much better and it’s going to be a very tough game, they have very good players. Smiljanic I know, he played for Partizan Belgrade, he played for the national team, he’s a very good player and they’re a very good team.”
