Sydney FC midfielder Milos Ninkovic says his ankle injury isn’t too serious and hopes to feature this Saturday against the Newcastle Jets at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

Ninkovic went down awkwardly under a tackle from Western United Captain Tomislav Uskok and was subbed off immediately after, hobbling up the tunnel.

However the Serbian was in a brighter mood on Thursday playing down the seriousness of the knock.

“My ankle, it doesn’t feel too bad today,” Ninkovic said.

“At the time when I went down I was very concerned as it didn’t feel good, but after resting it and icing it I feel a lot better.

“It did not look good on the replay, and I am thankful it was not more serious than it could have been.

“I was moving on it in the pool today and there wasn’t much pain,” he continued.

“I’d like to play on Saturday against the Jets and continue this great form we’re on now.

“We’re starting to put away our chances and we should hopefully score more this weekend.

“I will be doing everything today and tomorrow to make sure my ankle is good for the game.”

Reflecting on Wednesday night’s performance, Ninkovic said the performance had been on the cards for a number of games now.

“We have been playing well in the last few games, but a little bit unlucky with the ball not going in the goal,” he said.

“Last night it clicked again and we got the goals we deserved; it could have been even more.

“I think Newcastle will be tough on Saturday but we are confident,” he continued.

“If we can carry last night’s game over to this weekend we will be fine and we can give the Members and fans more reasons to be happy and celebrate.”
