Sydney FC Head Coach Frank Farina believes the next two weekends will be crucial to the fate of the Sky Blues- season.

Two home matches against struggling opposition Melbourne Heart and Wellington Phoenix give Sydney a chance to secure maximum points, and gain a march on major rivals for the Finals spots.

“It-s vitally important that we pick up six points,” said Farina.

“I think the season will go down to the wire, the last two or three games, so it really is an important period for us to pick up points.”

Farina could be boosted by the return from injury of Brazilian defender Fabio and Panamanian International striker Yairo Yau for the visit of Melbourne Heart to Allianz Stadium on Sunday, after the pair through a fitness session on Tuesday.

The morning session went ahead in 35 degree heat as Sydney was hit by a warm snap that was predicted to hit 43 degrees later in the day.

“It-s been quite pleasant this morning to be honest,” continued the former Socceroos coach.

“It-s probably going to pick up in the afternoon and the breeze helps as well so it wasn-t too bad. Not as bad as PNG I can guarantee that!”

The Sky Blues meet a Heart team who provided Farina-s first opposition as Head Coach after arriving at Sydney in early December.

“It-s been up and down with quite a few injuries since then,” said Frank. “I think they [the team] are growing and getting better but we are running out of time and we-ve got to start getting three points.”

Frank also confirmed he was still looking to bring in a central defender once the transfer window opens.

“If we can yeah, we can look hard but we-ve got to find one that is ready to play right now and available, so it-s a bit of a tall ask at this stage.”

Sydney FC’s next home game will be a Finals Series six-pointer against the Melbourne Heart this Sunday, January 13th. Tickets are available from Ticketek starting at just $25 for adults. Kick off is at 5pm. It should be an occasion to bring all the family.
