New Sydney FC duo Mickael Tavares and Jacques Faty are hoping to add some European flair to the Sky Blues as they look to build on Sydney FC’s reputation abroad.
Tavares likened the Sky Blues to Dutch giants Ajax as he and cousin Faty targeted pleasing the fans from the offset after linking up with their team mates this week.
“I hope we are going to bring our experience,” Tavares said.
“I like to play football and they told me Sydney FC was like the Ajax of Australia and I hope to fit in with this type of game.
“We can bring our experience because we have a different football I think in Europe. We have to try to do the maximum to help the team and bring this experience and try to do the best,” he continued.
“It’s a big pleasure to be here and be at such a big club like Sydney. The people are very nice to us so we are looking forward to show to the fans, the coach and team mates what we can do for the team.”
Tavares will have to cast friendships aside when the Sydney Derby rolls around, as the Senegalese international revealed it was Wanderer Romeo Castelen who suggested he recommend himself to Head Coach Graham Arnold and the club.
“I was playing in Hamburg with a friend of mine, Romeo Castelen, who signed for Western Sydney Wanderers,” he said.
“He contacted me to tell me that Sydney FC was looking for a midfield player. I think his agent knows the coach and he watched my videos and he liked it and that’s how I came here.
“He [Castelen] was a rival before in training but that was more of a joke but now we are here in Sydney, there is no chance for him.”
