Naumoff Pleased With Maiden Strike

After announcing himself with two rocket efforts against Sydney United in the Westfield FFA Cup, Christopher Naumoff added another first to the list as he notched his maiden A-League strike against the Central Coast Mariners on Saturday.

Picked out expertly by fellow youth product Aaron Calver, Naumoff latched onto the cross at the far post and guided the ball into the back of the net with his sidefoot and the youngster was pleased to be off the mark after recording 20 appearances for the Sky Blues at the weekend.

“I’m very pleased to be off the mark,” Naumoff said.

“It’s my first A-League goal and it’s a memory that will stay with me for a long time and I’m pleased with the way it came about.

“It’s always a great feeling to score a goal regardless of what type of goal it is and to celebrate with the boys and get us up to two nil was a great feeling,” he continued.

“It was a good game, obviously it’s a great way to start the New Year and be back to goal scoring form with the team, so overall it was a good result.”

Naumoff’s strike couldn’t differ further from his two sublime strikes in the Westfield FFA Cup, where they were spectacular efforts this was a more subdued finish, and the 19 year old is targeting further improvement as the season crosses the halfway mark.

“It was a bit different [from my FFA Cup strikes],” he said.

“This one was more of a placement shot but then again a goal is a goal, it’s always helping your team and that’s a big positive.

“I’m just looking to keep improving myself as always and keep getting myself in that team as much as I can, and look to score and create more goals as well.”
