Naumoff Content With Youthful Tag

Sydney FC forward Christopher Naumoff says he is at home being seen as one of the “younger boys” in the Sky Blues squad, despite a rise to prominence which saw him become a regular fixture in Graham Arnold’s starting line-up towards the end of last season.

The 20 year old made his Sydney FC debut almost two years ago away at AAMI Park against Melbourne City and has already made 34 Hyundai A-League appearances.

However despite establishing himself firmly in the first team with some fantastic performances on the way to last season’s Grand Final, he is content to still be regarded among the less senior members of the squad.

“Maybe I am a bit more experienced you could say but I always like to think of myself as a bit of a younger boy,” he said.

Naumoff has played in the majority of Sydney FC’s pre-season games as well as taking part in two games for the Olyroos against Turkey and Macedonia.

“It’s been a busy couple of months,” he continued. “It’s been good to get the fitness back and to get back with the boys.

“We’ve got some new faces in the team and getting to know them has been great as well.  Off the pitch the team gels brilliantly”.

The frontman expects a good test of Sydney FC’s credentials for this season when they meet Wellington Phoenix at Wollongong’s WIN Stadium on Friday night (7.30pm kick off) and he is setting himself a good target for this year.

“Wellington is always a tough game, we found that last year, playing two away games was tough as well as the home game we had here.  It will be a tough game and we’re looking forward to it like any other game.

“I’d like to play as many minutes as possible and as long as we are winning and enjoying ourselves then that’s all we can ask for.”
