Sydney FC have gone down in their first Australian away trip since their 4-1 win over Melbourne Victory this time last year.

Melbourne City began the more confident, scoring two in the first 30 minutes before Barbarouses hit the bar with a ferocious effort just before half time.

City added to their lead just after the break but it was the Sky Blues who finished the stronger following the introduction of Swibel, Ninkovic and Wood; with the latter two finding the target.

A late flurry wasn’t enough however, and the Sky Blues look ahead to a big derby against Macarthur FC on Sunday with a passionate crowd expected at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

What they said: Alex Wilkinson: “Melbourne City were pressing high and if you get sloppy in possession and give the ball away too easy like we did in the first half, then you get chances created against you.

“They took a couple of them and we slowly came into it but 3-2 probably flattered us a little bit.”
