Sydney FC solidified their position at the head of the table with a 9-2 triumph over Perth Glory on Sunday with Powell nabbing four goals in the rout, a feat that surprised even the young striker.
“I can-t remember the last time I scored four goals in that amount of time,” Powell said.
“I knew I could score the goals. It-s just about getting those chances and putting them away.
“I-m hoping for another nine goals this weekend but really all you can do is hope for the win,” he continued.
“The three points is what we want the most and hopefully we can get them.”
As the halfway mark of the National Youth League passes, the Sky Blues have cemented first place after losing only one of their nine games and Powell believes the way the squad performed at the weekend epitomises their season so far.
“It-s a very positive sign for the team on top of the table after halfway,” Powell said.
“It-s another confidence boost for us but we know it-s going to be another tough game this weekend against Newcastle.”
Powell knows Sydney FC will face a stern test on Sunday and is not resting on his laurels as the squad returned to training on Monday to prepare for the clash.
“We have to make sure we have a good week in training,” Powell said.
“We have to make sure everyone is ready for it and I-m sure we will be.
“I-m sure Steve has been keeping a close eye on them and how they play and will have in the back of his head how to play around them. We-ll just have to work on that throughout the week.
“Hopefully we can pull it off this weekend.”
