For Sydney FC star Kosta Barbarouses, there’s more than just three points on offer on Friday night against the Wellington Phoenix.

A win at Kogarah tomorrow would see Barbarouses within touching distance of becoming the first player to win three Premierships with three different clubs, and the New Zealand international said it’s the business the Sky Blues’ want to finish off.

“To win it with three different clubs would be great,” he said.

“More so having to join different teams at different times and adapt and be successful. It’s something for me to be proud of, it’s a good achievement and to win three Premierships full stop is a big achievement.

“Premierships are great, they show you’ve been the best over the course of the season.

“Knowing that we’re so close it’s a big factor [for motivation],” he continued.

“We’re playing a great team tomorrow so it’s not going to be easy but we’ve had a lot of challenges in the year already and come out of them.

“We need to be focused tomorrow night and then results pending we could wrap it up pretty soon.

“We still have a lot of goals we want to achieve and there’s a lot up for grabs. In the back of our minds for the last three months this has been business we want to finish off.”

Despite playing one of his former clubs Barbarouses said he’d still celebrate should he find the back of the net on Friday night, as he revealed the reasons behind why this fixture is so special for him.

“I have in the past so I can’t stop now [celebrate against Wellington],” he said.

“I spent a couple of spells, shorter spells at Wellington. The game means a lot to me as well for different reasons, my family and friends are all there, but there’s a lot at stake tomorrow and I’ll definitely be celebrating.

“I spent the first three years of my professional career there and they gave me my start.

“I was coming up in the U17’s and got picked up by the Phoenix from there. It holds a special place for sure and my family will take special interest because they’re Phoenix supporters too so it means a lot.”
