Mierzejewski Revels In Demilition Derby

Sydney Derby man-of-the-match Adrian Mierzejewski dedicated the Sky Blues emphatic win over Western Sydney Wanderers to the club’s fans after a magical performance at ANZ Stadium.

With the Polish superstar leading the way, Sydney FC ran rampant against a disappointing Wanderers to record a biggest-ever Sydney Derby win of 5-0.

Mierzejewski started the carnage on 14 minutes before adding a sublime free-kick just before the break after Alex Brosque’s goal as Graham Arnold’s men took a 3-0 lead to half-time.

There was no let-up in the second half as a Lachlan Scott own goal and a peach of a finish by Brandon O’Neill completed a ruthless display from the defending champions.

“It was a really good game for us,” Mierzejewski told Fox Sports.

“It was not easy, of course, but the result is amazing and a victory for our fans.

“It was not an easy game…5-0 is a good result.

“Now we have five minutes to celebrate and then we start to think about Friday’s game against Melbourne City.”

Even without marquee man Milos Ninkovic through injury, the Sky Blues ripped the Wanderers to shreds in front of more than 36,000 fans at ANZ Stadium.

The win takes the Sky Blues five points clear at the top of the Hyundai A-League and – incredibly – 17 points ahead of the Wanderers after just 10 rounds.

“As I said before the game, for us it doesn’t matter if we play against Wanderers, Perth, Victory, Brisbane – with all respect to the teams – but we want to win and we expect to win every game,” Mierzejewski said.

“It doesn’t matter who we play, home or away.”
