Melbourne Victory v Sydney FC: Match Preview

Thumbnail

Melbourne Victory and Sydney FC face off in one of the biggest Big Blues the Westfield W-League has seen in years, this Saturday evening.

Melbourne – who hammered Newcastle Jets 7-0 last time out – are not over the Finals Series finish line just yet but would confirm their participation for 2019/20 series with a point against their arch-rivals.

But you get the sense a draw would not suffice for Jeff Hopkins’ side. Melbourne were beaten 3-0 by Sydney FC on the opening round of the campaign and know a win at Marvel Stadium would see them overtake Head Coach Ante Juric’s team into second place and a secure a home Semi-Final, most likely a rematch against the Sky Blues.

The Sky Blues, on the other hand, need a point to secure second position. The reigning Champions were given a shock 2-1 defeat by Perth Glory last time out and know they cannot afford any more complacency as they attempt to retain their 2018/19 crown.
