While in Royal Prince Alfred Hospital undergoing leukaemia treatment, Sydney FC 10 year Member Aaron Abbonizio received an uplifting surprise on Friday with a special visit from a Sky Blues’ Hall of Fame member.

Receiving a phone call out of the blue, Sydney FC learned Aaron was a huge Terry McFlynn fan, and the Sky Blues’ General Manager Player Welfare was soon on his was to RPA to visit Aaron, gifts in tow.

McFlynn spent an hour with Aaron, chatting about the past 10 years at the Sky Blues and sharing photos of their past meetings at games and events before presenting Aaron with a signed Sydney FC AFC Champions League 2011 away jersey worn by McFlynn.

McFlynn said he was pleased to bring a smile to Aaron’s face and was glad to return the support Aaron has showed him.

“As a football club we wanted to show our support for Aaron in the battle that he currently is challenging at the moment,” McFlynn said.

“He’s showed us great support so it’s the least that we could do for him.

“We know that he’s winning his battle so far and as a football club we’re here for him and his family every step of the way.”

Sydney FC’s players return to training in July ahead of the Hyundai A-League 2016/17 season kicking off in October.
