Sydney FC captain Terry McFlynn is fired up for his opening match against Melbourne Victory in the Hyundai A-League.

“After a long off season I-m looking forward to finally getting back to business and playing in front of our fans,” McFlynn, the most capped player (124 games) for Sydney FC, said.

“A first up match against Melbourne Victory, which certainly excites both sets of fans, just makes it even more special.”

The former Queens Park Ranger player believes the fans are the most important element of any football club.

“Without the fans there is no atmosphere and as a player, one of the best parts of being successful is seeing what it means to the passionate people who pay money to come and watch us play, week in week out.”

“WE ARE FOOTBALL is about the things we all share as football fans. Regardless of which club we support, our age, gender, background, nationality or circumstance, football belongs to all of us, we’re all part owners, we’re all fans.”

McFlynn’s six year career at Sydney FC has seen him won two grand finals, a Premier’s Plate, and he-s played in two Asian Champions League campaigns and a FIFA World Club Championship.

The former Northern Ireland captain’s favourite football moment is winning the inaugural Hyundai A-League Grand Final.

“After being together and working so hard over a 14 month period leading into that day, to stand in the middle of the Sydney Football Stadium as champions, was an amazing experience,” said the midfielder.

Considering football matches were not played in his village in Swatragh, Northern Ireland, the 30-year-old has come a long way.

“My love for football started when I was a kid, when my uncle Mark had me down the park kicking a ball around,” he said.
