Sydney FC stars Terry McFlynn and Liam Reddy have helped raise an incredible $73,000 for the Children-s Medical Research Institute, after taking part in a Jeans for Genes golf day at Concord Golf Club.

The money will buy new research equipment and materials for Sydney FC-s Community Partner after businesses from all over Australia contributed.

The boys took part in a charity raffle and auction, while the day got even better for McFlynn who holed a ten metre putt to win a new golf bag and the putting title!

Having lifted the beyondblue Cup with a 1-0 win over Melbourne Victory, it means two trophies in a week for the club-s longest serving player.

“It was a great day and we were there to support a great charity,” said the Sydney FC captain.

“The work of the Children-s Medical Research Institute is something which is very close to the hearts of everyone at Sydney FC”.

“There was a lot of money raised and lots of vital equipment bought for medical research. It was great to be a part of it.”

CMRI Community Fundraising Manager Mary Donnelly was full of praise for the club-s support for the day.

“The day was a huge success. We had 90 guests for lunch and we managed to raise an incredible $73,000 from the event. This is double what we made last year ” she said.

“This fantastic result was also due to the commitment of the organisers and major sponsors, Morgan Lewis, Lawyers, SG Fleet and Moody & Doyle, Town Planners.

“I-d like to express a big thank-you to Liam and Terry for attending. They were great and Terry-s win in the putting challenge was very entertaining!”

And Terry revealed he wasn-t entirely confident of picking up top spot.

“I was delighted to win the prize. I was a little bit nervous at first because there were a few golfers around but thankfully I held my nerve and was able to get the ball in the hole and win.”

The Children-s Medical Research Institute is one of Sydney FC-s official Community Partners.
