Sydney FC defender Trent McClenahan says he-ll be thrilled if he was to get the nod in the battle for starting spots against Wellington Phoenix on Saturday night.

The former West Ham man could make his Sky Blues debut in New Zealand and hopes he-s done enough to show Head Coach Ian Crook he can do the job.

“We-ve all done a lot of work in training and we-ll see what happens but if I get picked I-ll be wrapped and looking forward to the game,” said Trent.

“Obviously it-s a good thing when the coach rates you. I-ve been working hard pre-season and trying to do as well as I can in the games to impress and get in the starting line-up.”

If selected, the centre half will have the job of marking Phoenix dangerman Paul Ifill.

“I-m looking forward to it, Paul-s a very experienced player and has played at very high levels overseas.

“He-s done extremely well at Wellington over the last few years, so it will be a big challenge for us and hopefully we can do well.”
