Match Preview: Sydney FC v Western United

Thumbnail

Sydney FC take on Western United on Saturday afternoon at Leichhardt Oval (kick off 5pm AEST), in their final match of the 2019/20 Hyundai A-League regular season.

The Sky Blues will lift their record-breaking fourth Premiers Plate following the clash, with Sky Blue Members and fans in attendance for the moment.

Head Coach Steve Corica’s men will be out to close the regular season with a victory, and the signs for three points were there in their second half performance against the Roar, with only Jamie Young denying the Sky Blues the win.

Expect more changes to the squad, with Rhyan Grant returning from injury, while Captain Alex Wilkinson, midfielders Milos Ninkovic and Anthony Caceres, and defender Michael Zullo were all rested on Monday night.

The two sides have met once previously in 2019/20, with Golden Boot leader Adam Le Fondre bagging a brace in a 2-0 win in Victoria in December 2019.

Western United have secured their place in the Finals Series with two games to spare, and will be out to showcase their credentials, boasting the league’s in-form player at the moment in Max Burgess.

Expect an entertaining encounter on Saturday in the Inner West.
