Sydney FC-s recruitment for the 2012/13 season received a necessary injection of pace today with teenage striker Mitch Mallia signing a two year contract with the Sky Blues.

Mallia has scored 12 goals from nine appearances in the 2011/12 National Youth League and has already made three substitute appearances for Sydney FC in the A-League during the current campaign.

The 19-year-old was identified during the Pre Season as a future A-League player with his blistering speed, finishing skills and technical ability and will take the next step in his development in a Sky Blues shirt over the next two seasons.

Mallia, who was born and raised in Sydney and played his junior football with the Marconi Stallions, was thrilled to have signed his first professional contract with his home club.

“I-m really excited to sign my first senior contract with Sydney FC,” Mallia said. “After joining the club at the start of this season, I knew from the beginning that I wanted to start my professional career at Sydney FC.

“With the calibre of both the coaching staff and players at the club, I feel that this is the best place for my football to develop. I-ve had a taste of first team football in the last month, and I-m looking forward to working hard to challenge for a regular spot in the senior team.”

Sydney FC Coach Vitezslav Lavicka was also thrilled to have the teenager make the step from Youth Team to the A-League.

“Mitch is joining Sydney FC for the next two seasons and that is a positive for the Club,” Lavicka said. “He has a lot of pace, he has good technical skills, he has been playing well consistently in (the) Youth Team and is the right character to join Sydney FC. He has potential to be a good A-League player if he can continue to develop.”
