Sydney FC will take on their cross-town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers at the new kick-off time of 6:30pm on Sunday 25 February, 2018.
The change sees the start time brought forward by half an hour from its originally scheduled time of 7pm.
It will be Sydney FC’s first pre 7pm start of the season, with Sky Blues’ Chief Executive Officer Danny Townsend working with Football Federation Australia and Fox Sports to find a time to suit a larger proportion of fans.
“We worked with FFA and Fox Sports to find a time which would be more helpful to families attending this marquee game, whilst still suiting the significant TV audience,” he said.
“With the game scheduled to finish at 8:30pm, the change of time will make the fixture a better proposition to those members and parents for what is expected to be another excellent atmosphere and bumper crowd.”
Head of the Hyundai A-League, Greg O’Rourke, said the kick-off time had been adjusted following consultation with Sydney FC, Western Sydney Wanderers FC, and the competition’s broadcast partner FOX SPORTS.
“The schedule for the balance of the season only has one more stand-alone Sunday fixture,” O’Rourke explained.
“All others are double headers as far as broadcast is concerned. Balancing the crowd focus and the broadcast opportunities, we believe the slightly earlier start will optimise both for what is always one of the most anticipated games of the season.”
The Sky Blues are unbeaten in their last six Sydney Derby’s at the ‘Fortress Allianz’ and will be looking to achieve seven points out of a possible nine this season against their cross town rivals.
