The month of August, 2009 has been one of milestones for rising Sydney FC star, Kofi Danning, and the 18-year old has added another feather to his cap, becoming the first nominee for the 2009/10 NAB Young Footballer of the Year award.

The month of August, 2009 has been one of milestones for rising Sydney FC star, Kofi Danning, and the 18-year old has added another feather to his cap, becoming the first nominee for the 2009/10 NAB Young Footballer of the Year award.

A panel of experts, including Qantas Young Socceroos Coach Jan Versliejen and Fox Sports commentator Andy Harper voted Danning the most outstanding U21 player in the Hyundai A-League competition for the month of August, following the teenager-s strong showing in Sydney FC-s climb to the top of the table.

“It-s a great honour,” said Danning of his nomination. “As a team we-ve been going really well and I-m just happy to be a part of that. I want to keep improving my game and become more consistent.”

“I-m trying to learn as much as I can from the coach (Vitezslav Lavicka) and the senior players (at Sydney) and keep progressing as a footballer. It-s only early in the season, though and there-s still plenty of hard work to do.”

Danning is the first of six nominees that will be ultimately be in the running for the NAB Young Footballer of the Year award at the end of the season.

The eventual winner will receive the NAB Young Footballer of the Year award and a $10,000 managed personal investment portfolio from the NAB.

Kofi-s junior club, Canberra FC is already a winner, receiving $3,000 worth of football equipment from the NAB as a result of his August nomination.
