Khamis Calls For More Of The Same

Coming off the back of a win in the Sydney Derby at the weekend, Sydney FC record goal scorer Leena Khamis has called for more of the same from her Sky Blue team mates as they prepare to face Premiers Perth Glory on Sunday at Lambert Park.

Bagging a first half brace in the Derby win, Khamis said it was reflective of the positive week the girls had in training following two consecutive defeats to start the season as she said the lack of adequate facilities provided by the Wanderers did little to affect the Sky Blues.

“It was really important to win the Derby, we didn’t get the best start to the season that we wanted,” she said.

“It was the Derby so the win, it meant more.

“We had a really good week at training, the girls were all switched on and knew their roles and we wanted to come out firing and I think we got off to a good start especially in the first half.

“We tried not to let it [the facilities] interfere with us too much, we just focussed on the game and pretty much let the football do the talking and not worry about that sort of stuff.

“They [Perth] have got some really good talented players, a couple of internationals,” Khamis said.

“No game is an easy game, it’s going to be another tough match and we just have to bring the same sort of game as last week as well.”

Following a record crowd of nearly 1000 at Lambert Park for round one, Khamis has called for another bumper turnout to spur the girls to victory.

“We didn’t have the best display for them in round one, but the Sydney FC fans are great and they always get behind us and I hope we get as good a crowd as round one,” she said.

“It wasn’t the best start [at home], but we’ve put that aside and we don’t want to dwell on it too much so we just look to each week, this week is Perth, and we’ll focus on it at training this week and hopefully come away with a win.”

Sydney FC take on Perth Glory in the Westfield W-League at Lambert Park, Leichhardt on Sunday 8 November (kick off 4pm). Tickets are available at the gate so come down and cheer on the girls or follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for match updates.
