Key Moments v City

Sydney FC were held away at Melbourne City after dominating a match in which they created a hatful of chances. The Sky Blues fired in 19 shots on the Melbourne City goal but went behind twice to Aaron Hughes and Bruno Fornaroli headers, with Milos Ninkovic bagging a second half brace to ensure the points were shared at AAMI Park.

Blackwood chance: A long ball from O’Neill is missed by a leaping Hughes with Blackwood anticipating the error to run onto the ball. The young forward races clear of the defence at a backpedalling Sorensen however his attempted lob falls wide of the goal.

“It’s a learning experience for the kid, but I thought he went exceptionally well,” Head Coach Graham Arnold said.

“He was up against two former international defenders but he got himself into some very good scoring positions. It was pretty much the first time he has played as a No 9 for me.”

Ninkovic goals: Two crucial and well taken goals ensured the Sky Blues deservedly took something from the clash at AAMI Park. For the first, Ninkovic produced a deft flick off a Holosko cross to elude Sorensen while his brace was capped with a leaping header after Holosko headed Andrew Hoole’s ball back across goal.

“I didn’t expect to score two goals, I’m really happy because for me it was really good. It’s always a difficult game for us and one point is ok.”
