Janjetovic Confident Of Stifling Kiwis

Sydney FC shotstopper Vedran Janjetovic favours his squad’s chances against top of the table Wellington Phoenix as the Sky Blues travel to New Zealand for Sunday’s match.

Janjetovic is confident the Sky Blues can get the better of the Kiwi side and says he expects plenty of goal mouth action at both ends against the side currently leading the table.

“We’re pretty confident, there’s no reason we shouldn’t be confident,” he said.

“We’ve scored a lot of goals the last few games and the boys are ready to go and we want to set ourselves up for the finals series.

“Everyone knows what their roles are and what to do. We’ll keep it compact, tight at the back and hopefully we’ll keep them out.

“It’s going to be a tight game. Generally speaking I think it will be an end to end game, they’ve got fast wingers and strikers, we’ve got the same sort of thing as well, so I expect a lot of goal mouth action.”

Janjetovic said it’s natural to lift against quality opposition and as he prepares for Sunday’s clash he said defeating the ladder leaders on their home ground is added incentive for the Sky Blues to bounce back from their narrow defeat at the weekend.

“We’ll prepare as we always do, we’ll go through the game plan and go through the video of them and ourselves,” he said.

“We’ll just keep it simple and stick to the basics and not worry too much about what happened last week.

“When you’re coming up against quality opposition you always lift your game and I think that’s a natural thing,” he continued.

“The boys will be pumped anyway, it will be a good game, they’re top of the league and it gives us more incentive to go over there and beat them there.”
