New Sydney FC striker Joel Griffiths is hoping he can be the catalyst to turn the Sky Blues season into a successful one.

The frontman, who has spent the last four years playing in China alongside the likes of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, believes his firepower can lift Sydney into the Finals and beyond.

“Hopefully I am the last piece of the jigsaw puzzle, that-s the way I-m looking at it. I know the team is excited and I know I-m more than excited to be a part of this team.

“But it-s one thing saying that and another thing doing it, so we-ve just got to work hard as a team and I-m sure that style of play will come out in all of us,” said Griffiths after Wednesday-s training session.

The former A-League Golden Boot winner is set to make his Sky Blues debut on Saturday night when Wellington Phoenix visit the Allianz Stadium, and he is relishing the prospect.

“I-m looking forward to it, I-ve trimmed myself down and I-m in good shape and ready to go.

“Hopefully I can contribute somewhere and I-m looking forward to the challenge.

“With this team, if we get some sort of rhythm and winning mentality then I-m sure that we-ll push ourselves in to the finals and give ourselves a real shake,” he continued.

Griffiths is also keen to forge a strong partnership up front with Italian marquee Alessandro Del Piero, after watching the striker set up Rhyan Grant-s winner against Melbourne Heart.

“If Del Piero can pick Rhyan out then I-m sure he wouldn-t have a problem picking me out.

“I-m trying my best to get some little combinations going with him at the moment.

“That win sets a platform and hopefully we can go on and not rest on our laurels,” concluded the striker.
