I’ll Be Better Than Last Year – Le Fondre

Fresh off a brace against Adelaide United, Adam Le Fondre believes he can surpass his goal scoring tally from last year and take out the 2019/20 top goal-scorer award.

Le Fondre, who became the third fastest Hyundai A-League player to reach 20 goals on Friday, says he knows the league better now after scoring 18 in his first year at the club.

“As a player you can’t just rest saying last season was a good season, I want to go better than that and for me, that’s the type of thing that hypes me up,” he said.

“I know the league now and I’ve changed what I needed to change in the pre-season.

“I’ve come back fitter, stronger and I’m looking forward to improving my performances this season compared to last season.”

The English-born striker also praised his partnership with new signing Kosta Barbarouses, with the duo combining well in their first league match together on Friday.

“We’re starting to link well up top and I think we’ve got a good relationship going already,” he said.

“We seem to know each other’s movements and that’s where the goals come from.

“There was a few times in the match where I would set him up and he would set me up and it seems to be working really well so far.”

Le Fondre is eager to continue the bright start when the Sky Blues’ return to Leichhardt Oval for the first home game of the season.

“I’m confident after the win in Adelaide and if we play to our full capabilities, we’ll get the right result,” Le Fondre said.

“Winning the first two games of the season is such a positive start, so it would be good to come away with the win.”
