Sydney FC defender Matthew Jurman has emphasised how important the Sky Blues home fixtures are as the squad prepare to face the Newcastle Jets at Allianz Stadium on Saturday (kick off 7:45pm).

The Sky Blues have won nine out their 11 previous home games and have the chance to increase their streak to four in a row, which will be a first for Sydney FC.

With the Sky Blues having only two away games for the remainder of the year Jurman is hoping Sydney FC capitalise on this schedule and push forward in the New Year.

“You need to win those games at home,” Jurman said.

“This lack of travel is positive for us and especially not travelling too far [for the away match against Central Coast]. It-s going to be good for our confidence to get results nearby and at home.

“If we can keep getting results especially at home I think we-ll be in good stead.”

Sydney FC and the Jets are currently both on form and Jurman is amazed at how a club-s fortunes can differ throughout the course of the season.

“It-s funny how a couple of results can change the look of how your season is going,” he said.

“If you look at maybe a month or so ago both of us were near the bottom and everyone was writing us off.

“So a few good results for both teams and now we-re sitting third and fourth, so it-s going to be a big game on Saturday and we-ll be pushing each other to the end.

“If we can keep getting results at home, come the end of the season we-ll be near the top.”
