Happy To Be Home Says Jurman

Sydney FC’s training camp in Wollongong provides the perfect opportunity for the Sky Blues squad to travel away and gel as a team but for Matthew Jurman however, it’s a home coming.

Born in Wollongong, Jurman is relishing being back in his hometown as he eyes Friday night’s South Coast Football Challenge clash against the Wellington Phoenix at a pristine WIN Stadium, Wollongong.

“It’s always good to go back to where it all started,” Jurman said.

“It’s going to be a good week in Wollongong and I’m actually excited to be back home for a week.

“Wellington are a great team, they were very dangerous last year and have some great players. I’m sure it’s going to be similar this season and it’s going to be a good hitout for us on Friday night, it should be a good game.

“WIN is a great Stadium,” he continued.

“It’s a great surface to be playing football on. We played there twice last season so it’s a great place to play and hopefully the crowd come down in numbers and support the games.”

Taking part in the Sky Blues second preseason trip, Jurman praised the training camps as a prime opportunity to gel as a team and prepare for the season ahead.

“The training camps are very important in terms of the new players coming in,” Jurman said.

“I know that they’ve been here for a while now but sometimes it’s good to be in a camp like situation and just always training and working on things as a team. We’ve got the game as well which also helps.

“We’re just working on some more defensive training sessions and making sure everyone knows what Arnie wants in terms of when we lose the ball and where we start defending from the front all the way to the midfield and backline.

“As a team we want to build to the start of the season which is only a month away and hopefully learn how to play together a lot more.”
