Grant Not Banking On #SydneyDerby Record

Sydney FC star Rhyan Grant isn’t resting on his laurels heading into the highly anticipated #SydneyDerby on Saturday, saying records speak for nothing once the whistle sounds.

The Sky Blues boast a dominant record over the Wanderers, undefeated in their last seven encounters, and while Grant says the squad are confident heading into the clash, nothing can be expected at Bankwest Stadium.

“It’s going to be packed out next week, and to have their fans in numbers and our fans showing up it’s going to be a great atmosphere and back to the glory days of big derbies,” Grant said.

“It’s going to be a good test for us, both teams have started the season well.

“We’ve got a pretty good record in that game, but they’re the sort of games where anything can happen.

“The record speaks for itself and we’re always confident no matter who we play, but you never know what’s going to happen in those games though, they’re always a bit fiery, I know it’s going to be a good game and we’re confident of getting another three points.”

Buoyed by his first goal since the 2017 Grand Final at the weekend, Grant has set his sights on finding the back of the net more, with assists also a large part of his game that he wants to build on.

“I think more goals and more assists is something I need to add to my game,” Grant said.

“I tend to get into good areas and not make the most of it so it’s definitely something I’m working on and need to do more of. Hopefully it’s a good sign for things to come.

“When you’re in the box, if the ball comes at you, the ball came quickly at me, but you’re always going to go for goal,” he continued, reflecting on his winner against the Phoenix.

“I just got enough on it to loop over in at the back stick. Everyone keeps saying deft touch so I’ll take it. It felt good.”

The Sky Blues take on Western Sydney Wanderers this Saturday 26th October at Bankwest Stadium (kick off 7:30pm). Watch on Fox Sports 505 of follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for live updates from the clash.
