Gersbach Hoping Form Continues Against Perth

From the HSC to the football pitch, Sydney FC youngster Alex Gersbach has moved in leaps and bounds as he forges his career in the Hyundai A-League.

The 17 year old defender credited Sydney FC Head Coach Graham Arnold as the man behind his rise in form as the AIS graduate prepares to play his fifteenth match for the Sky Blues in his first season as a professional.

“Arnie has been really good, without him I don’t know what I’d do,” Gersbach said.

“He’s given a lot of faith in me which has given me confidence to play the way that I’ve been playing and that’s all I can ask from Arnie.

“Attacking, getting down the wing and getting a few crosses in, using a bit of pace, that’s what I like to do playing at left back.

“I’m finding it really good at the moment, the boys have been really helpful, all the staff have been really helpful and I’m just looking to keep it going at the moment for the rest of the season.”

With the most crosses attempted in the league, Gersbach is hoping to build on first assist against the Mariners last week when he squares off against the table toppers Perth Glory on Saturday (kick off 9:30pm AEDT).

“I think the boys are all ready to go for the game against Perth,” he said.

“The mood in the change room is really good at the moment especially after the win against the Mariners but that doesn’t really mean anything at the moment and we have to take it one game at a time.

“Perth are the team to beat at the moment, they’re top of the league, and we’re going to be doing our best to take out our game plan and see what we can do to get the three points.”

“Im really enjoying it and to have people to cross the ball to like Marc Janko it really helps a lot to have players like that out there and it’s good that he can give me a bit of credit for his goal,” he continued.

“We’re looking to get on a winning run and looking for a better performance than the first half of the season and hopefully we can make a charge for the finals and see what happens from there.”
