It will be a national reunion when Sydney FC take on English Premier League giants Chelsea FC in June, as Nikola Petkovic lines up against two of his countrymen at ANZ Stadium.

Petkovic will face long-time friends, and Chelsea heavyweights, Nemanja Matic and Branislav Ivanovic and it’s a match up that the Sky Blues central defender is looking forward to.

“I know Matic for a long time and I know him well because he is the same age as me,” Petkovic said.

“We played together in youth teams and also in the national team. I have also known Ivanovic even longer than Matic.

“We played together in the national team in 2007 against Poland and they are both very special players.

“They are two big players and for us it will be very exciting to play against not only these two players but the whole Chelsea team.

“I will say hi to them when they come to Sydney and we will share a laugh.”

Petkovic is relishing the opportunity to face the potential English Premier League Champions in a game that he described as fantastic for Australian Football.

“I’m very excited to face Chelsea,” he said.

“They are one of the top five clubs in the world and they are in line to win the Premier League.

“They have a lot of great players and one of the best managers in the world in Mourinho so I can’t wait to play against them. It’s very good for us and for Sydney FC.

“It’s brilliant for Australian Football,” he continued.

“Sydney is also the biggest city in Australia and it will be good to show off our club.”
