Four Sky Blues In Matilda’s Squad

Four of Sydney FC’s Westfield W-League squad have been selected by Westfield Matildas Head Coach Hesterine de Reus to take on Brazil in a two match series at the Queensland Sports & Athletic Centre in Brisbane next week (Sunday 6 April (kick-off 3pm), and Wednesday 9 April (kick-off 4:30pm).

Four of Sydney FC-s Westfield W-League squad have been selected by Westfield Matildas Head Coach Hesterine de Reus to take on Brazil in a two match series at the Queensland Sports & Athletic Centre in Brisbane next week (Sunday 6 April (kick-off 3pm), and Wednesday 9 April (kick-off 4:30pm).

Casey Du Mont, Amy Harrison, Nicola Bolger and Leena Khamis have all been chosen as part of de Reus- 23 player squad with Harrison and Du Mont both in contention to make their senior international debuts.

Fresh from finishing in seventh place at the Cyprus Women-s Cup where the Westfield Matildas played the Netherlands, Scotland, France and Italy, de Reus will be using these matches to fine tune her squad before the AFC Women-s Asian Cup 2014 which will be held in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam from from 14-25 May.

Co-Captain Kathryn Gill has the opportunity to equal Cheryl Salisbury-s record for the Most Number of A-International goals by a Matilda which stands at 38 goals.

Brazil are currently ranked 6th in the FIFA Women-s World Rankings (as at 28 March 2014) and the Westfield Matildas are in 11th place.

These two teams have met each other on 9 previous occasions with Brazil holding the advantage of 6 wins to the Westfield Matildas 3. In their last encounter at the 2011 FIFA Women-s World Cup Brazil defeated the Westfield Matildas 1-0 in the group stage of the tournament.
