Sydney FC has announced its 25-man squad for the 2011 AFC Champions League campaign which commences on Wednesday 2 March when the Sky Blues take on Korean powerhouse Suwon Samsung Bluewings (8pm kick-off) at the Sydney Football Stadium.

On top of the recent additions of David Williams (North Queensland Fury) and Andrew Durante (Wellington Phoenix), the Sky Blues will be headlined by star midfielder Nicky Carle, young gun Dimitri Petratos and attack minded left back Scott Jamieson.

Fans will be able to see the squad in action tonight when Sydney FC takes on New South Wales Premier League club Sydney United at Edensor Park (7:30pm kick-off) – its final hit out before the clash against Suwon.

Media can enter tonight-s match with their Hyundai A-League accreditation.

“We are very confident heading into the Champions League. We have played well in 2011 in the A-League, we have good players here and of course we added some more players in both attack and defence,” Sydney FC coach Vitezslav Lavicka said.

“I feel we have good balance in the squad. We have many attacking options and strikers that play in different ways. We have experience through all positions and of course youth and speed with our young players.

“We have done research on our opponents although many are in preseason and have changed their teams but we know about them. We have been researching them for a while.

“It is very exciting for me personally, the club and of course the players to be involved in this tournament. We have and are working hard to do well.

“We have added six of our Youth League players to the squad also. This will give them important experience both personally and for the club.

“We will represent Sydney FC fans, the club, ourselves and the city and try to do everyone proud.”

17-year-old Terry Antonis (knee) was not named as he will not be fit to compete in the tournament.

As per the Asian Football Confederation regulations, Sydney FC cannot make any additions to this list for the remainder of the first phase (which ends at the conclusion of the Round of 16 games).
