Everyone is hungry says Brosque

Alex Brosque has recovered from an ankle injury to rejoin Sydney FC this Sunday against Gold Coast United in a match he hopes will signal a fresh start for the season.

Out for four games, Brosque has spent his time on the side-lines waiting for a chance to turn the team’s dry spell in to last season’s winning performance.

“It’s been a long, frustrating couple of weeks but I’m just happy to be back out on the park and running around with the boys this week. It’s a big game Sunday and we know we desperately need the 3 points,” Brosque said.

He says the team have had some tactical issues, mainly with possession, but two weeks focusing on weaknesses and a weekend off from competition has left the team refreshed and rearing to go.

“Everyone looks hungry again, we’ve got that passion back to try and make sure we stop this rut that were in. The signs were there two weeks ago in a close match against Wellington with the game determined by a penalty and an excellent strike. We’ve been positive and we’ve moved the ball around well in training so its just a matter of doing it out there on Sunday,” he said.

Gold Coast United beat Newcastle Jets FC on Wednesday and claimed victory in all three matches against Sydney FC last season but Brosque is hopeful the team can snatch a win on home soil.

“It’s starting to get a little bit deep in to the season now and we need to start getting wins. For us, it starts on Saturday. These next three games will be go on defining how the rest of our season turns out.”
