Having spent a season out with injury, Sydney FC winger Bernie Ibini says his dreams haven’t been halted as he prepares for his second stint in Sky Blue.

Ibini fractured his leg training at Belgium side Club Brugge and has been in recovery since, however the winger said he’s pushing himself to get back on the pitch as he noted the changes at the Sky Blues in the year he’s been away.

“All my dreams to be a part of the national squad and make my mark in Europe are still alive and that’s why I’m back here to get back to my full fitness and enjoy playing again,” Ibini said.

“The leg is going ok, I’ve got a lot of work to do still but I’ll be working hard every day to get back on the pitch.

“It looks like they’ve made a lot of changes, it’s very exciting and I’m very happy to be a part of it,” he continued.

“It’s a good chance to push myself, you need a strong squad to win things so the more competition the better.”

Ibini said there was no hesitation in returning to the Sky Blues when the offer arose, as he said he’s pleased to be with his family again follow his year spent in Europe.

“Being back at this great club and working with Arnie again, the medical staff and them having the belief they can get me back on the pitch was a major thing [in returning],” he said.

“Being back with my family during this time is something I [also] think will be good for me.

“It’s very tough being away from your family, it was a tough time but I’m a strong person and I continue to go in every day and work hard.

“To now come back and be back home with my family and friends is very exciting and I’m looking forward to it.”

Sydney FC are next in action against the Macarthur Rams at Campbelltown Stadium on Tuesday 26 July (kick off 7:30pm). Tickets are priced at $12 for adults, $5 for children and concessions and $25 for a family.
