Determined Dumont Ready To Roar

Sydney FC’s shot stopper Casey Dumont’s former teammates are soon to become rivals this Sunday when the Sky Blues face off against the Brisbane Roar in their Westfield W-League clash at Queensland Sports & Atheltic Centre (kick off 3pm).

The 22-year-old goalkeeper played with Brisbane Roar for the larger part of her Westfield W-League career, but made the move to Sydney FC for the 2013-14 season and Dumont couldn’t be keener to defend her goal against her former club this weekend, hopeful that Sydney FC can take away the three points.

“I’m really excited. It’s always great to play your old team and make sure that you outdo them,” Dumont said.

‘It’s rubbing it in but also showing that you’ve got the skill.

“A good three or four nil win would be amazing. But no doubt, it’s going to be a hard game so any kind of win would be great.”

Despite Brisbane Roar wanting to sign her once again, Dumont chose to remain as a Sky Blue this season and believes the decision is paying off.

“I get great coaching with Sydney FC,” she said.

“That is what’s going to make me a better athlete and my goals come true and that is to play a great season and make the World Cup team.

“Last season I was coming back from injury but now I’m fully fit, I’ve improved and I am going to be a great goalkeeper for my team.

“No more ‘Casey’s back from injury’ but instead, ‘Casey is here to contest for Matildas’.”

After keeping a clean sheet in Sydney’s 2-0 win against Adelaide United last Sunday Dumont is confident for the season ahead.

Dumont believes her hard work in the pre-season is already paying off, but doesn’t take any credit for the win against the Lady Reds in the season’s opener.

“It’s always good to start with a win because you know all the pre-season training is worth it,” she said.

“You know your standard is high and it will only get better.

“I worked my backside off in pre-season so it was good to show some of the things I’ve been working on and use it in the game.

“Though a lot of it was luck and my team helped me out too. I made some saves but I can’t take all the credit.”

Sydney FC will take on Brisbane Roar at Queensland Sport & Athletics Centre TOMORROW (3pm kick off) and you can catch the match LIVE on ABC 1, nationally, from 3pm.
