Sydney FC striker Ranko Despotovic is confident the Sky Blues can replicate their victory over the Jets when they take on the Mariners at Bluetongue Stadium today (kick off 5:30pm).

The Sky Blues currently sit in fourth place and a win today will put the squad in good stead as they head into the business end of the season with seven games remaining.

“We try every game to win,” said Despotovic.

“Every day is a new day and we try to prepare just for the next game, so this week we will try and win against the Mariners.

“We haven-t changed a lot. We changed just some small things that we thought are going to help us and we saw the result in Newcastle so I hope that we are going to repeat that.”

With the Mariners coming off the back of a five match losing streak, Despotovic believes this is the Sky Blues best chance to take the three points at Bluetongue although he knows he-ll face a stern test to continue his goal scoring form.

“This is the best moment to win against them,”Despotovic said.

“It hasn-t been going well for them in the league and I think it is a good opportunity for us but we have to be 100% prepared because they are in the Champions League and that doesn-t mean they are a bad team.

“Every game is different so you need to be prepared 100% physically to do some good things like score the goals,” he continued.

Despotovic said he was pleased with his on-field combinations with Alessandro Del Piero and Corey Gameiro and vowed to continue the Sky Blues climb up the Hyundai A-League table after their recent back to back wins.

“It-s working a lot [the attacking triangle with Del Piero and Gameiro],” Despotovic said.

“Alessandro and me especially in the last few weeks we were speaking about what we should do and in the end when you work on something it shows on the field.

“Every week we will change that [our position], we will try to go as hard as we can because I think that we have the power to do that.”
