Sydney FC’s fantastic active supporter base The Cove has proven once again they are the best in the country by putting their hands in their pockets and buying the first 25 Sydney FC Community Memberships.
The initiative which has been introduced this season provides a pathway for Members to help grow the football family and provide a Membership for someone who ordinarily wouldn’t be able to go.
It’s run in conjunction with Football United and the scheme offers Sydney FC Members the chance to buy a season long Junior Membership for just $50 instead of the standard $70
This Community Membership is then provided to someone under 17 who will be chosen by Football United.
At a recent fundraiser for The Cove, the supporter base ended up with a surplus of $1,250 and took the decision to donate the money to fund 25 Community Memberships.
Steve Southworth, a Member of The Cove’s organising committee thanked his fellow supporters for their generosity: “This is something we’ve talked about within The Cove where we wanted to purchase ten cove memberships, this incentive has meant we’ve been able to buy double the amount we had targeted.
“The money was raised at the annual SFCU forum fundraiser where we exceeded the amount required to run www.sfcu.com.au .
“Generally the money over the target is placed into the fans fund which we use to make our tifos and flags. We thank everyone who donated towards the forum and to this great cause.”
The purchase of the 25 Community Memberships will enable the recipients to come to all Sydney FC home games for no charge and receive the Membership pack and all the other benefits of a Junior Membership.
Sydney FC Chief Executive Officer Tony Pignata praised The Cove for their generosity.
“This is a really phenomenal gesture from The Cove and it undoubtedly shows they are the best in the country,” he said.
“The club has worked hard with Football United to come up initiatives such as this and it is fantastic to see it has received such support from our loyal Members.
“I’m sure that support will be hugely appreciated by those who will benefit from the Community Memberships and they will be looking forward to an exciting season ahead.”
Sydney FC Community Memberships cost $50 and can be purchased by new or renewing Sky Blues Members when they come to buy their own Memberships at the brand new Sydney FC Membership portal.
