Sydney FC Foxtel National Youth League Head Coach Steve Corica has congratulated his young squad after they clinched the Premiers title at the Sydney United Sports Centre this afternoon.

The Sky Blues squad lifted the trophy with three games to spare following a 2-1 win over Brisbane Roar.

The Young Sky Blues claimed the spoils thanks to first half goals from Terry Antonis and Mitch Mallia but were forced to work hard for their win after a second half strike from the Roar-s Samuel Sibatuara.

Head Coach Steve Corica praised his young squad following the Premiership.

“I-m very proud of the boys because they-ve wrapped it up with three games to go and we are ten points clear,” he said.

“I-m delighted for them. They-ve put in a lot of hard work and the manner in which they have done it has been excellent.

Corica is in his first season as Head Coach of the squad and said the Premiers title made him feel very proud.

“I feel great, we-ve picked a good group of boys and I-m proud of the coaching staff as well, they-ve all done a wonderful job.

“The majority of the boys are under-age so hopefully we-ll be able to keep the squad together next year and build on that.”

National Youth League captain Jacob Tratt said: “It-s an unbelievable feeling as we-ve worked so hard this year and it-s good to see that has paid off. It-s a massive achievement for the team and credit to all of the boys and the coaching staff.”

Meanwhile Sydney FC-s Westfield W-League narrowly missed out on the women-s Premiership title after a 2-1 defeat to Canberra United. Caitlin Munoz-s 14th minute penalty for Canberra was cancelled out by Samantha Kerr-s header in the first half before Stephanie Ochs wrapped up the win for the visitors with a second half strike.

The defeat leaves Sydney FC in second place on the ladder and they will play Melbourne Victory in the Westfield W-League semi-final next Sunday afternoon at WIN Kogarah in a 3pm kick off.
