High Praise For The Cove

Sydney FC Head Coach Steve Corica has sung the praises of The Cove following their stunning tifo display at Leichhardt Oval on Sunday.

Having set the standard in the Hyundai A-League for a number of seasons, Corica credited The Cove with driving the Sky Blues on to the three points against Wellington, with Rhyan Grant’s winner coming at their end of the field.

The Sky Blues’ boss paid testament to hours and manpower that goes into creating tifos of that scale, with The Cove becoming only the third group to use safe smoke in the Hyundai A-League.

“It was amazing [The Cove’s tifo],” Corica said.

“I was on the banner and that was nice, they put a lot of time and effort into that, they’re a big part of our support that drive the boys and the club on as well.

“All our fans are amazing, but The Cove especially, they’re a special bunch. When you need a hand they’re there to push us on, like on the weekend to get an extra goal.

“To score at the Cove end at the weekend was great and the players love playing for them.

“The tifos they produce are amazing, there’s a lot of work involved, they get bigger and bigger and better and better each time they make one, and for us as staff and players we admire that and it’s really great,” he continued.

“They turn up every week and I want to make sure they know we really appreciate what they do and their support for us.”

Club Legend Alex Brosque, in attendance on Sunday, was amazed and touched by The Cove’s tifo, with the former Captain truly appreciating the atmosphere and spectacle from the stands.

“Seeing the Cove come out in full voice on Sunday for the boys’ first game was a great sight to see,” Brosque said.

“I’ve always felt the support they give us out on the pitch as a player, but to see them now from the stands as a fellow supporter, it was amazing.

“The banner was a nice touch too, obviously being included on it alongside Terry [McFlynn], Steve [Corica] and Rhyan [Grant] is very special to know what I mean to them, but also the challenge they’ve now set out to the boys in saying “who’s next”.

“I loved it and have no doubt they’ll be out there again this week in what’s going to be a huge game for the boys.”

Sky Blue star Rhyan Grant echoed Corica’s sentiment, remarking on the quality of the crowd in attendance on Sunday.

“I love it [at Leichhardt Oval],  I’ve loved playing there the last couple of years,” Grant said.

“It’s a really great venue, I didn’t even realise there was only 12,000 it felt like a lot more. Great numbers on the hill which everyone loves to see and The Cove came out in great numbers with great banners there. When the crowd shows up like that and it’s such a great day, there’s nothing better.”

The Sky Blues take on Western Sydney Wanderers this Saturday 26th October at Bankwest Stadium (kick off 7:30pm). Watch on Fox Sports 505 of follow @SydneyFC on Twitter for live updates from the clash.
