Confident Barrett Primed For Champions Clash

Sydney FC’s Westfield W-League Head Coach Dan Barrett says he is heading into Sunday’s clash against Canberra United confident following the Sky Blues recent run of results.

After overcoming the Western Sydney Wanderers and reigning Premiers Perth Glory in impressive displays, Barrett says there’s no reason why they can’t defeat United following a round two loss to the Champions albeit with a depleted squad.

“They’re certainly going to be a tough test,” Barrett said.

“They are a squad brimming with experienced players and always make any match up against them tough.

“We need our returning Matilda’s to have big games that’s for sure, their inclusion is definitely a plus for us and their experience will be vital heading into this one so it’s great to have them available this time.

“I am confident. I believe in this group of players,” he continued.

“The last two weeks have been pleasing to get the points. We have worked hard defensively after the first two weeks and this helped us build a good platform for these wins and we will be looking to continue the run come this Sunday.”

After losing three nil in Canberra, Barrett believes he’s learnt the error of the Sky Blues ways from that match as he said his squad are fit and fresh following a weekend off with a bye.

“Without giving too much away, I learnt a lot from our last match against them,” he said.

“The game last time around was difficult for us but we know the reasons why and we’ve worked on those areas during the past week.

“Having the weekend off helps a lot,” he continued.

“We had players away last week with Matilda’s duty so this week we will be able to focus tactically with the whole group together from start to end and that’s certainly a plus heading into such a big clash.”
