Sydney FC’s latest star Danielle Colaprico is eager to get the Westfield W-League 2018/19 season underway with a massive #SydneyDerby at Marconi Stadium on Thursday night.

In what will be a first for the American, the young midfielder said she was excited ahead of Thursday night’s clash, while saying she’d already settled in well to her new surroundings in Sydney.

After spending the last two W-League seasons with Adelaide United, the 25-year old New Jersey native will pull on the Sky Blue jersey for the first time at Marconi Stadium in what will definitely be an exciting night for the club.

“Everything has been great so far,” Colaprico said.

“The Sydney girls have been so welcoming and that’s a huge part of coming over to Australia as you’re so far away from family and friends, so to have their support and excitement is great.

“We’re all very excited, we’ve had a few training sessions now since I’ve arrived and we’re looking really good, really sharp, and we’re getting better every day.

“I cant wait to get out on the field with them and win some games this season, we’re pumped.”

The midfielder has been a part of the Chicago Red Stars team in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) since 2015, making 77 appearances for the club, as well as representing the United States U23’s team from 2014 to 2016.

While she has become familiar with the W-League during her stint at Adelaide, she believes the move to Sydney was the the right time for her and can see plenty of potential at the Sky Blues this season.

“I spent the past two years at Adelaide, and they’re a great club but I felt it was time for me to move on,” she said.

“I watched Sydney FC last year and I really like the way that they play and the style they implement.

“That was a reason why I really wanted to come here after they made it to the Grand Final last year and did so well, its been a pleasure to watch them and now to be a part of it.”

After being named NWSL Rookie of the Year in 2015, Colaprico has become an integral part of the Chicago side and will look to make the same impact this season at Sydney FC.

Colaprico understands how important it is to not look too far ahead, while stating her belief that the Sky Blues have the potential to go one better than last season.

“I want to win the Championship, that’s the main goal here,” she said.

“Obviously while its one game at a time and we’re not looking too far ahead with all our focus towards tomorrow night against Wanderers, I think we definitely have the team here that is capable of winning a championship this season.”

Sydney FC kick off their Westfield W-League season against Western Sydney Wanderers tomorrow night at Marconi Stadium at 7.30pm.
