Returning Sydney FC star Nick Carle can-t wait to link up with Italian World Cup winner Alessandro Del Piero and believes the pair can forge a winning partnership on the field.
Carle-s loan move to UAE Pro-League club Bani Yas last year opened the door for Del Piero-s arrival in Sydney – a move which proved to be a huge success for the club and the Hyundai A-League.
“I think I did the best thing for Australian football and leave to open up space for Del Piero,” joked Carle.
“From what I saw he was absolutely brilliant and by all accounts he-s brilliant in the changing room too.
“He put bums on seats and gave a massive profile to the A-League, particularly Sydney FC, so I-m very happy he-s coming back,” continued the midfielder.
Carle-s link up with the Italian maestro will be a key factor if the Sky Blues are to succeed this season, and the 31 year old is confident they can hit it off.
“I-ve always been a big fan of people who like the ball to feet and can hold it up and play little one-twos,” he said.
“When he gets the ball he can pretty much do what he wants, so from my perspective I-ll be trying to get the ball to his feet and running off him to get the ball back – playing those little one-twos that I enjoy doing.”
The 13 cap Socceroo midfielder is also impressed by the new coaching structure and has an optimistic feeling about this season.
“The training sessions so far have been right on the money and I definitely feel, without pumping it up too much, if we can get the way Frank and Rado want us to play then I think it could be a very exciting year for us!”
