Captain’s Column: Thanks For The Wishes – It’s Been Overwhelming

Thumbnail

It’s been a whirlwind couple of weeks both personally and on the field for Sydney FC.

I’ve been overwhelmed with the messages of congratulations and support following the announcement of my retirement, I know my body and I felt the timing was right, but I’m fully determined to go out on a high by delivering a record equalling fourth Championship for this great club.

On the field we continue to uphold the success that this club is synonymous for. We’ve wrapped up second spot and our performances in the AFC Champions League haven’t received the three points they deserve. We’re still alive in the competition though and I’m confident we’ll progress to the next round.

I love scoring in a #SydneyDerby, and at least I managed to bag another against the Wanderers in my final one.

My foot is feeling a lot better though, I’m back running at training and I can’t wait to get back out on the pitch with the boys – I’m not far away from a return now!

Brosque Sticks It Away Against Wanderers

This week off will be great for the boys leading into our massive Semi-Final at Kogarah. It’s a time to rest and recover and make sure we are in peak condition for next Tuesday’s AFC Champions League clash in Korea Republic too.

I look at a lot of the other clubs around the A-League and many are often done now until next season. At this club however, we are always involved in something whether it is the finals here or the Asian Champions League, or even exhibition games against overseas clubs. There is always something going on here at Sydney FC.

All these things are fantastic for the Sky Blues and our fans – what an exciting time to be a Member of this club.

Away from football, I hope everybody enjoyed Easter and spent time with family and friends. I didn’t travel across to China for our game against Shanghai but it did mean that I got to spend time with family in between trips to training for my recovery.

With so much happening at Sydney FC in the next couple of months, I hope you all are as excited as I am for what lies ahead and once again thank you for all the kind words since I announced my retirement a few weeks ago. Let’s hope we can finish on a high in 2019!
