Captain’s Column: Spirits High After Great Weekend

header

Hi All,

Hope everyone has had as good of a week as us, as spirits amongst the players have been high coming into the start of the training week.

It was a fantastic weekend for the club, picking up six points across the A-League and Westfield W-League, and for us it was an outstanding 3-0 win in our maiden derby against new boys Macarthur FC.

There was a couple of outstanding goals, Miloš Ninković with the performance of the match and a clinical goal, but then for Patrick Wood to step up at such a young age and put a brace into the back of the net is so promising to see as it shows our youth system is producing some unbelievable talent that can step up and get the job done.

Taking those three points regularly is crucial early in the season and hopefully we can continue this momentum forward.

Personally, it was also a huge milestone game as I celebrated my 150 A-League wins. A lot of those coming in the last few seasons at Sydney FC where we’ve been very successful.

It’s the team that gets these wins, not an individual, and so here at Sydney FC keeping a core group of players together has bred a really strong culture of winning and positivity which is evident in our success.

The milestone makes me look back in retrospect at some of the most memorable games with some tight derby victories with big crowds and also some great games against our traditional rivals Melbourne Victory.

I’m looking forward now to Monday night, a double header back at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium which has become a great home for us.

It’s a stadium where we have a great record as a side and love to see our Members and fans in a more intimate stadium environment. So we’re back into some really intense sessions to make sure we’re fit to play Wellington Phoenix come Monday.

I can’t wait to see all the Sky Blue shirts there, but I understand for those who can’t make it your support even if it’s watching from home or the pub motivates and is very much appreciated by myself, the lads and the whole club.

Hope to see you all there!

Alex Wilkinson,

Sydney FC Captain
