Captain’s Column: Semi-Final Ready

header

Hi everyone,

Well that’s the regular season done and dusted. A win in Brisbane was great way to round out the comp and send us into the Finals Series with confidence.

There were some great performances from the boy coming in to cover those away with the Socceroos, and the standout was definitely Tom Heward-Belle in goals. He produced some brilliant saves and looked solid throughout the match.

We’re well versed in this week off and know how valuable it is to rest and recover properly ahead of a huge Semi-Final game.

This week has been all about recovering and making sure we’re in top condition for next Saturday’s game, everyone at training has been looking fresh and we’re ready for whoever we’ll face at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium.

I don’t have a particular preference for who I’d like to face. It would be special to play my former club the Central Coast Mariners, we haven’t faced them in the Finals Series since that inaugural Grand Final in 2006…which I’d rather not talk about.

Adelaide would be another interesting clash. Sydney FC beat them 4-1 the last time they played in a Semi-Final, and it was an equally impressive scoreline in our most recent encounter against them.

Whoever we face we’re confident. We’ll be drawing plenty of inspiration from our last Semi-Final at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium, that magical night in 2019 where we thrashed Melbourne 6-1, and all the boys know just how much it would mean to do the ‘threepeat’.

We’ll all be eagerly keeping an eye on this weekend’s results, and we can’t wait to see you all out in force at Netstrata Jubilee Stadium next Saturday.

Until then, stay safe and stay warm!

Alex Wilkinson
Sydney FC Captain
